Website Design Cost in India (2026): Real Numbers, Not Ranges
Every pricing guide gives you a range so wide it is useless. Here are the actual tiers, what separates them, and the recurring costs nobody quotes upfront.
Praveen Pyati · Founder, Borangi
Every website pricing guide in India tells you the same thing: somewhere between ₹5,000 and ₹25,00,000. That range is technically accurate and completely useless. It is the pricing equivalent of saying a car costs between ₹50,000 and ₹5 crore.
Here is the version that actually helps: what each tier really contains, what separates a ₹20,000 site from an ₹80,000 one, and the recurring costs almost nobody puts in the quote.
₹15k–₹35k
Professional portfolio site, agency-built
₹75k–₹2.5L

Indian market rates, 2026. Estimates only — real quotes depend on scope.
1 · What are you building?
2 · Who builds it?
3 · What else do you need?
Estimated build cost
₹35,000 – ₹90,000
Plus recurring: ₹12,800 – ₹66,500 per year (domain, hosting, maintenance). Payment gateway fees run 1.8–2% per transaction on e-commerce.
These are market ranges, not a quote. Anyone who gives you an exact price before understanding your scope is guessing.
1. Portfolio and personal brand sites
For freelancers, consultants, creators and executives who need a clean, credible presence. Three real tiers:
| Tier | Price | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| DIY / template | ₹5,000 – ₹10,000 | Single-page or template layout on WordPress, Wix or Webflow. You do the setup and the maintenance. |
| Agency standard | ₹15,000 – ₹35,000 | Custom UI/UX, mobile responsive, contact forms, social integration, basic SEO meta tags. |
| Custom / Next.js | ₹35,000 – ₹80,000+ | Bespoke design, headless architecture, custom animation, case-study subpages, genuine performance work. |
// WHERE THE MONEY ACTUALLY GOES
The jump from ₹10,000 to ₹35,000 is not design polish — it is decisions being made for you. At the DIY tier you choose the structure, write the copy, pick the images and fix it when it breaks. At the agency tier someone else owns those, and that labour is most of the invoice.
2. E-commerce stores
Cost here is driven by catalogue size, integrations and platform — not by how the site looks.
| Tier | Price | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-level | ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 | Shopify or WooCommerce on a starter theme. Up to ~50 SKUs, standard checkout, Razorpay/Paytm, basic shipping tracking. |
| Mid-tier D2C | ₹75,000 – ₹2,50,000 | Custom theme or frontend, automated email/SMS funnels, GST-compliant invoicing, CRM/ERP integration, advanced catalogue filtering. |
| Custom / marketplace | ₹3,00,000 – ₹10,00,000+ | Full custom application, vendor dashboards, multi-warehouse sync, complex shipping APIs, high concurrency. |
The number that decides your tier
Not your budget — your SKU count and integration list. Fifty products with one payment gateway is a starter build regardless of how ambitious the brand is. Five hundred SKUs syncing to Tally with multi-warehouse inventory is a ₹2,50,000 project regardless of how simple the storefront looks.
3. The whole market on one screen
| Website type | DIY / Freelancer | Agency standard | Advanced / custom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portfolio | ₹5,000 – ₹10,000 | ₹15,000 – ₹35,000 | ₹35,000 – ₹80,000+ |
| Business / corporate | ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 | ₹35,000 – ₹90,000 | ₹90,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
| E-commerce | ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 | ₹75,000 – ₹2,50,000 | ₹3,00,000 – ₹10,00,000+ |
4. The costs nobody quotes you
Build cost is a one-time number. Running a website is not. Budget these every year, at every tier:
- Domain (.com / .in): ₹800 – ₹1,500 per year
- Hosting or cloud: ₹2,000 – ₹15,000 per year depending on traffic. Vercel, AWS and Hostinger sit at different points; Shopify plans start around $25/month.
- Maintenance and updates: ₹10,000 – ₹50,000 per year. Skipping this is how sites get hacked.
- Payment gateway fees: roughly 1.8% – 2% per transaction on e-commerce. On ₹10 lakh of annual sales that is ₹20,000 nobody mentioned.
// THE QUESTION THAT SAVES YOU MONEY
When you get a quote, do not ask what is included — every agency has a good answer ready. Ask “what is explicitly excluded, and what will you charge me for in month three?” The quality of that answer tells you more about the agency than the price does.
5. How to actually choose a tier
Work backwards from what the website has to do, not from what you can afford:
- If the site is a business card — a place people check before they call you — the DIY or agency-standard tier is correct. Spending ₹80,000 buys you nothing measurable.
- If the site is your sales channel — leads or orders come through it — the agency tier is the floor. The extra spend pays for itself in conversion.
- If the site is your product — a marketplace, a platform, something with logged-in users — you are buying software, not a website, and the pricing above barely applies.
Most Indian SMBs over-spend on category one and under-spend on category two. A beautiful ₹1,00,000 brochure site that generates no enquiries is a worse outcome than a plain ₹40,000 site with working lead capture, analytics and follow-up automation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to get a website in India?+
A DIY builder like Wix, WordPress or Webflow with a template, at roughly ₹5,000–₹10,000 including a year of hosting. It works for a single-page portfolio. It stops working the moment you need custom functionality, real performance, or anything integrated with your business systems.
Why do agency quotes vary so much for the same website?+
Mostly because scope is undefined. A ₹20,000 quote and a ₹80,000 quote are usually describing different projects — one is a template fill, the other includes custom design, copywriting, SEO setup and integrations. Ask what is excluded, not what is included. That is where the difference lives.
How much does an e-commerce website cost in India?+
₹30,000–₹60,000 for a basic Shopify or WooCommerce store on a starter theme with around 50 SKUs. ₹75,000–₹2,50,000 for a custom-designed D2C store with automated funnels, GST-compliant invoicing and CRM integration. ₹3,00,000 and up for custom or multi-vendor marketplace builds.
What ongoing costs should I budget after the website is built?+
Domain ₹800–₹1,500 per year, hosting ₹2,000–₹15,000 per year depending on traffic, and maintenance ₹10,000–₹50,000 per year. On e-commerce, add payment gateway fees of roughly 1.8–2% per transaction. Most quotes leave these out entirely.
Is a custom-coded website worth it over WordPress?+
Only if you have a specific reason — performance targets, unusual interactions, heavy integrations, or scale. For a standard business site, WordPress or Webflow does the job at a fraction of the cost. Custom code is justified by requirements, not by prestige.
